This week, we go back to where the Adelaide Show really began, with Steve’s introduction to radio in Murray Bridge in the 1980s; a story we’ll call Radio 5MU Style.

It was a fateful Sunday morning in 1985 when I headed off to Murray Bridge for a 10am job interview with David Bean and Phil McEvoy. Little did I know I would be on air that afternoon for a trial and then back the following Saturday with my first radio job. During the next seven and a half years, I got to meet some talented, hard-working people and some larrikins as well, and about a dozen of them have gathered tonight in North Adelaide to reunite with old colleagues and share war stories of the great mistress, radio.

Suggested Tweet text: Hear how David Bean & Phil McEvoy gave birth to #Radio @11255MU in #MurrayBridge in the 80s.

We discuss

  • selling ads
  • radio mishaps
  • water skiing
  • outside broadcasts
  • very strange job interviews

In the musical pilgrimage, we’ll hear Made Of Stars because tonight’s cast IS made of stars
