Z Wine 2012 Rustica Reserve Barossa Valley Shiraz

rustica-zerk-shiraz Photo Steve DavisThis is NOT your typical Barossa shiraz.

In episode 37, we tried this reserve shiraz from Z Wine and were quite taken by its savoury nature. This might or might not be due to the 160-year-old vineyard that winemakers Kristen and Janelle Zerk tend.

To begin, this wine does need to breathe or be decanted to let its full flavours develop.

In fact, Brett said the fruits were dark fruits on the palate.

Steve also commented about the bigger tannins than encountered in previous examples of Barossa shiraz – not huge, just prominent.

It was agreed that not only would this wine suit rich roasts but Brett cheese and a ploughman’s lunch platter.
