C & M Berkin Chemical Free Honey tasting notes

Our SA Drink Of The Week is a little different for episode 159 of The Adelaide Show Podcast because it is honey.

During our recording at the Mannum Games Obsession Expo, Chris Berkin helped us produce these C & M Berkin Chemical Free Honey tasting notes by giving us a tasting of some of his South Australian honey.

Chris argued that having honey as the drink of the week makes sense because you can mix it with lemon when you have a cold or, if you lived in Japan, you would put a teaspoon into a cup of hot water and drink it like coffee!

The first of our honey tastings was with the C&M Berkin Citrus honey from the Riverland.

It is rare because the honey can only be made for 4-6 weeks in the year.

Steve got a strong note of grapefruit with a hint of bitterness.

The second honey was mallee honey; the main one the Berkins produce.

It comes from redgums and bluegums, collected along the SA-Victorian border.

The honey’s flavour was an ark over his palate whereas the mallee was more of a base, strong flavours with a hint of smoke.
