119-ballydroft-cab-sauv-2012 Adelaide Show

119-ballydroft-cab-sauvignon 2012UPDATE: This wine was named our South Australian Wine Of The Year for 2015.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Ballycroft Cabernet Sauvignon, we salute you!

This is a Cabernet Sauvignon unlike any you’ve tried.

In episode 119, Ralf Hadzic supplied us with a bottle of this Ballycroft drop that was phenomenal.

Ballycroft is at Greenock in the Barossa Valley but the grapes for this drop come from Langhorne Creek.

Ballycroft Cabernet Sauvignon tasting notes

Steve went so far as to say if you’ve never tried this wine you should not say you KNOW South Australian wine.

This is an elegant, gentle, sumptuous wine with supporting tannins and an array of savoury fruits including blueberry, according to Steve (yes, that shocked him too).

You must listen to our tasting, below, about 13 minutes in, because Ralf tells some beautiful stories about Joe the owner and winemaker. It is inspiring.

Nigel also notes the alcohol content is 15.8%/vol which took us by surprise as it is not ‘hot’ on the palate.

All in all, this is a stunning South Australian Drink Of The Week and we hope you get some soon.
