Our South Australian Drink Of The Week for The Adelaide Show Podcast episode 245, was the 2016 Artis Adelaide Hills Single Vineyard Syrah.
Our guest, Matthew Michalewicz, chose this because the winemaker from Artis Wines, Andrew Miller, was one of Matt’s first friends when he arrived in Australia, and he introduced him to many great Australian wines.
Now, Andrew has left Orlando and is on his own, making wine influenced by his observations of winemaking in France and Spain.
2016 Artis Adelaide Hills Single Vineyard Syrah
The first thing Matthew noted was this is an Adelaide Hills wine and is still quite young, being a 2016 vintage.
Steve’s first note was that it tasted like an elixir a happy doctor from the olden days might have made, something akin to a blackberry syrup but with almost all the fruit and sweetness extracted, but a thickness on the palate.
He also commented that it has the character of a fine steed; the sort of horse that is proud and thunders directly to its destination.
Nigel commented this must be an early pick, given the dryness.
