These Mother’s Milk Shiraz Barossa Valley tasting notes were created on table 1 at the Joiners Arms Hotel as part of the recording of The Adelaide Show Podcast 166.
Our guest panel was at the hotel ahead of our coverage of the Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory game that took place that evening at Hindmarsh Stadium.
The panel all agreed this drop was worthy of the SA Drink Of The Week title because it was very approachable and would please most people at a packed stadium, rather than being a rarified wine that would only suit particular palates.
2015 Mother’s Milk Shiraz Barossa Valley tasting notes
Josh Sampson noted it was nice because it wasn’t acidic.
Steve Davis described his tasting experience thus: it’s like you’re standing at the edge of the beach where the water starts ebbing back from your toes but in the process of the water flowing backwards it creates an undercurrent which produces an unexpected wave that seems to come out of nowhere. Now imagine that wave made of red currant cordial.
Damien Lewandowski’s comment was that this wine grabbed him like John Kosmina grabbed Kevin Muscat around the throat before a Melbourne Victory game in years gone by; it’s a very spicy game, it’s a very spicy red.
Nigel picked up on the pepper and spice on the palate and noted how it was reminiscent of a southern vales wine, rather than a Barossa.
