2015 Bremerton Wines Vermentino and 2015 Bremerton Wines Fiano

Bremerton Wines Vermentino and Fiano, as tasted on The Adelaide Show Podcast

For episode 156 of The Adelaide Show Podcast, Kate Punshon arranged for two, glorious white wines as the South Australian Drinks Of The Week, when we interviewed her in Strathalbyn.

As a result, she introduced the boys to a 2015 Vermentino and a 2015 Fiano, both from Bremerton Wines at nearby Langhorne Creek.

Kate knew Steve was not a fan of white wine, to put it mildly, but as an agrarian adventurer on a mission to revive lost flavours, she was determined to introduce him to something she was confident he’d like but would never voluntarily choose. She was right.

She also selected the wine because she is not a red wine drinker. As a result, she’d been working her way through all the new varietals being produced locally and the tasting that was captured for episode 156 was a direct outcome of her work.

2015 Fiano Bremerton Wines

First wine up for the night was the 2015 Fiano and the tasting panel all commented on the elevated fruit profile of this wine.

Steve pegged it as green pineapple; not tart, not sweet, just pregnant with fruity intent. Whatever that means.

Kate described it as fresh, clean and refreshing to drink.

Michael got a little oiliness, reminding him of Semillon on the palate.

While the wine notes suggest serving this chilled but Kate was keen to warn us against serving it TOO chilled, to allow the aromas to be present.

Steve says forget Netflix and chill, come back to my place for Fiano and chill!

2015 Vermentino Bremerton Wines

Kate began by noting the enhanced citrus notes in this wine.

Steve then declared this wine drank like a vodka martini with extra, extra Vermouth. This could explain the citrus notes.

Kate also noted the extra minerality or acidity; honing in on the terroir of Langhorne Creek.

Steve then came back to say the longer the wine was on the palate, the more it was like he had licked grapefruit pith.

Michael smelled lychees in this wine and slightly green Kiwi fruit.

You should decide for yourself. Hear our live tasting below, about three minutes in, and then go out and sources these wines to enjoy for yourself. Happy pith licking!
