2014 Wirra Wirra Church Block McLaren Vale

Wirra Wirra Church Block McLaren Vale tasting notes from The Adelaide Show Podcast 190

There is a sweet sense of victory behind the choice of Wirra Wirra Church Block McLaren Vale as the South Australian Drink Of The Week on episode 190 of The Adelaide Show Podcast.

After watching fellow podcasters, Pickles and Bonz, at the recent Adelaide Podcast Festival, both Steve Davis and Be The Drop podcaster Amelia Veale, entered their competition of tweeting about the sports podcasters to win a twin pack of this wine.

The two went into a frenzy, both trying to out do each other with better tweets and photos about Pickles and Bonz, and the duo ultimately selected Steve as the winner.

However, as a natural act of chivalry, Steve then brought his spoils to share with Amelia this week, when she turned up as a guest on The Adelaide Show.

This wine is an iconic drop in South Australia, being the first wine the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972.

It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot and the big Cabernet dryness certainly dominated this tasting.

Steve described the wine as being well-discplined, like a besuited child in its Sunday best, taut, serious and allowed only splashes of fruity colour via its handkerchief and tie.

Nigel noted the fruit began to emerge, the longer the wine was allowed to breathe and open.
