Set You On Fire – The Villenettes – 032

What could be hotter than an Adelaide rock band? an Adelaide band of RockChicks! The Villenettes describe their style as “original rock’n’roll with a splash of surf, a shimmy of girl group and a razor edge of zombie punk, and “a Tarantino fans’ wet dream”. My original thought when hearing it was ‘Rockabilly’ due mainly  to the drum beat, but the surf and zombie punk descriptors really work well.

Sometimes all-girl bands can trade on the novelty factor, but I’m pleased to say neither the Villenettes or Lipsmack, who we featured a little while ago, suffer from this. The musicianship is good, lyrics are strong and it looks like they’ve got the right idea with branding.
The song tonight “Set you on fire” is an angsty un-love song; there’s nothing subtle about the intent here. So, as they say…  get ready to dance like the devil and party like it’s 1959!

(And gents.. don’t cross these chicks, OK?)
