The Adelaide Show Podcast putting South Australian passion on centre stage

I don’t think you’re lonely by Kelly Breuer 005

Kelly Breuer aka The Brouhaha

I’ve long been a big fan of Tommy Emmanuel and so, naturally, I tried to emulate what he does. So listening to this I can recognise that the boom-chick and guitar play shows a level of skill because it’s not obvious. Kelly is a musician. What’s even more impressive is this is live; it’s not a 25 take recording session where the vocals are done separately and mistakes are smoothed out. (God I hope it’s her playing!)

Normally, lyrics that include the word Facebook, Twitter or iPod annoy me as if it’s not a natural thing to include, it’s just done for effect, but in this case, Kelly pulls it off.  The song has a great hooky chorus and I found myself doing the head bop thing with the first listen.

She has a nice voice which sounds trained. I mention that because it’s not necessarily a prerequisite of singer songwriters in general. She also has a great range reminiscent of Clare Bowditch and Joni Mitchell.

On the online side, I find her ‘brand’ to be a bit confusing. The Brouhaha is inventive but I know I’m looking for Kelly Breuer, so that’s what I Google for. Kelly has a lot of talent; if she can brand herself she’d be more visible – but then again, maybe that’s not her bag. If I saw her name in a gig guide, I’d go out and see her.

With grass roots like Kelly Breuer, Adelaide’s music scene is in great shape – talent, intelligence, wit and musicality all bundled up together in a wonderfully listenable package.
