Last year we had Ben Searcy’s song “Wangary” on the show which really blew me away with the depth of meaning. Well, this week I brought another one of Ben’s in but this time just because it’s just damn funny and really tickled my slightly perverse sense of humour. Having said that, once again the lyrics do unveil themselves with subsequent listens.
Ben is also a photographer and photojournalist, which is how he ended up on the Eyre peninsula to be inspired for Wangary. He has been to the USA a couple of times and he combined these two facets of his art by documenting his personal experiences of open mic nights, His photographic exhibition, “Unsigned in America” is happening in Sydney as part of the “Head On Photo Festival” from 13 May to 17 June. More on the festival can be found at http://www.gallerylanecove.com.au/#!headon-photo-festival/c20e3 or you can see Ben’s photos at his home page, below.
