The concept of The Beards is simple – A rock band that exclusively perform songs about just one subject: Beards.
The Beards have gained a cult following in Australia after touring the nation relentlessly over the last few years. Notable performances include the Falls Festival, The Big Day Out, Woodford Folk Festival and of course their visit to Alaska to perform at the World Beard and Moustache
Championship’s opening ceremony.
So the question that comes to my mind is: did they actually start the Hipster movement, or do they just have brilliant timing? In 2020, I wonder if they will be taking credit for a generational icon, where people will say “D’ya remember back in ’13 and ’14, when anyone who was cool had these ridiculously bushy beards? I knew the band that started that off!”. I say, why not? Someone has to take the credit and it may as well be a bunch of South Aussies who stand for everything beardish!
And besides all that, this is actually a damn good song. Great fun, good songwriting, arrangement and musicianship, and some wicked harmonies.
