The Adelaide Show Podcast putting South Australian passion on centre stage

About Colin Long

boringadelaide about colinColin was a founding member of the podcast from episodes 1 to 48.

I came into the world the same year Barry Manilow’s self-titled debut album was released, as well as Cliff Richard’s second entry into the Eurovision song contest.  Naturally unaware of these happenings at the time, I later became an avid fan of both performers – and I’m happy to say the three of us are still going strong.

The middle son of British immigrants (indeed ten-pound poms) I grew up in humble beginnings, in Elizabeth, north of Adelaide.  It was a much different time to now, and it was a different place back then.  Since leaving home at the tender age of seventeen, I’ve lived on every side of the city, bar south.  These days I reside close to the city, and enjoy the close proximity of just about everything Adelaide has to offer.

I’ve held an interest in radio (and television, and general performance for that matter) since I was a child, and now I despair at what I consider to be a general dearth of entertaining shows on either medium.  I was invited to do a radio spot earlier this year, and had already toyed with the notion of podcasting.  It was when my friend Steve Davis put the suggestion to me to co-produce a podcast together, that I really developed the sense of direction required to create an ongoing series.

My work background has mostly been in the area of administration and creative support, but by far my most interesting and enjoyable job to date was when I worked in the mortuary of a city hospital.  A worthwhile and humbling experience, I’m very proud of my work and my time there, and would do it all again without a second thought.

I publish some of my thoughts at The Colly Blog and was invited by Wendy Harmer to write a piece on my mortuary experience for her website The Hoopla.  You can also listen to my radio interview with ABC891’s Michael Smyth.

As well as following us @BoringAdelaide you can also follow my personal Twitter account @CollyLong.  It may contain a mix of things I find amusing, as well as things I find annoying.  You’ll find my thoughts and opinions on all-sorts, and I’d like to think there’s both wit and wisdom included.  Follow me and say hello!
