190 – Show Within A Show

Shakespeare made the Play Within A Play famous so we are developing that notion into the Show Within A Show. Tonight, WE are the guests of Amelia Veale of the Be The Drop podcast. Amelia wanted to interview us about YOU, our podcast community, and we wanted to interview her about Be The Drop, so we recorded two shows at once.

This week, the SA Drink Of The Week is Wirra Wirra Church Block, with a special story

Nigel will try to stump us with IS IT NEWS on the topic of Queen Adelaide

In 100 Weeks Ago we hear from local mum, Ainsley Machonicie, who has MS and was heading to Israel for some stem cell procedures to halt the disease

And in the musical pilgrimage … it’s Written In The Skies

Suggested Tweet text: Will you @Be_The_Drop and start a #community? We get deep into #communication.

Thanks to Pickles and Bonz, we have this wine. We won it by flattering them on their podcast! And Amelia was my muse – I just had to win. Amelia’s image is the first one, Steve’s the one below; the winning one 😉 (Steve).

00:11:18 Amelia Veale interviews Steve and Nigel and vice versa

A few weeks ago, we met Amelia Veale as one of the other podcasters at the Adelaide Podcast Festival. Tonight, the host of Be The Drop, steps in to interview us. It is a show within a show.

As you’ll learn tonight, Be The Drop is a Bryce Courtenay saying from one of his characters who explained that even a mighty waterfall begins with a single drop.

The theme of our discussion was community.

In the growing internet of things, as computers are increasingly connecting our lives, what does it mean to be human? How do we open ourselves to truly meaningful connection? We can now connect with people across the globe with ease and speed and yet what’s increasingly lacking and what communities and seeking more and more, is the human element. The trick to successfully develop relationship building in today’s online world is to develop strategies that enable you to look your community in the eye; digitally.

Amelia is increasingly interested in the need to be human, to shift our focus towards a human economy. The human economy is one of connection and sharing, where people are recognised and given a sense of significance through valued contribution. All of these aspects build trust, respect and the foundation for mutually beneficial relationships.

Interview questions:
> Who is your community?
> How long has it taken to build this group?
> Why is building community valuable to you?
> What unites this group and how are you a part of this?
> What motivates them to take action?
> What has been the biggest challenge in building your community?
> What is the most successful communication platform(s)?
Conclusion – Your #bethedrop tip (aka: your top community communication tip) Find the thing that rocks your boat. It is more than likely that there will be others who share that interest.
01:28:37 Is It News?

Nigel challenges the panel to pick the fake story from three stories from South Australia’s past.

BAG OF MONEY LOST AT TIME OF A COLLISION
Whispers of a daylight robbery having been committed were heard among a crowd which collected at the corner of King William and Currie streets on Thursday morning. It was stated that a lad had been waylaid and a bag of. money stolen from him. Enquiries, however, elicited the information that no robbery had been committed at all. At about 10.40 a.m. John Lendon, a messenger employed at the Queen Adelaide Club, in Stephens-place, and living at Torrensville, was crossing the road, when he was knocked down by the mudguard of a motor car, driven by Mr. H. Smith, grazier of St. Bernard’s-road, Magill. The lad, who received a slight cut on the left, wrist, declined to go to the
hospital, but he was taken to a chemist's shop nearby by Mr. Smith, Here his injury was attended to. At the time of the accident, Lendon was carrying a bag containing £44 17/, belonging to the Queen Adelaide Club, and he lost the bag when he was struck by the motor. Fortunately it did not get into the possession of a dishonest person, for it was picked up by Mr. William H. Keightly, a commission agent, of Kither’s Buildings, who took it into the Bank of Adelaide. Constable. Keane took possession of the money, none of which was missing.

One hundred weeks ago, we met local woman and mum, Ainsley Machonicie, who has lived with MS for many years but was then embarking on a stem cell process to halt the disease and possibly reverse it. As a side note, Ainsley in joining us soon for an update, but here is her helpful analogy to describe the careful way she needs to live so she can conserve her energy and functionality, daily.
