Little Bang Icon Ale/Lager tasting notes

little bang icon ale/lager on The Adelaide Show Podcast

These Little Bang Icon Ale/Lager tasting notes were produced as we started recording the SA Drink Of The Week segment for episode 173 of The Adelaide Show.

Ryan Davidson and Fil Kemp conducted a craft brew masterclass for us during the recording and this first beer of the night was very memorable.

On the Little Bang Brewing Company website, Icon is described as:

It’s an Australian Lager but it’s not. It’s a Steam Ale but it’s not. It’s a hop bomb but it’s not. It’s a session beer and a geek fest at the same time. It’s simple, really, but it’s complex. Have we bastardised an Australian tradition? Have we sold out the Craft fraternity? Have we conflated a cultural icon with a computer icon? Have we over-thought this? Yes. Yes we have.

Steve spearheaded the tasting by proclaiming that he had passionfruit on the nose and then upped the stakes to Passiona as he started sipping.

He said it was not sweet but more like orange fruit whizz confectionary without being highly sweet.

Fil certainly matched the citrus notes, preferring lemon sherbet as his approximation.

Steve later chipped in that the aftertaste was reminiscient of the prickly stubble and slightly sweet/sour tang of grandpa’s kiss, but he doesn’t expect to see that on the Little Bang website anytime soon.

This is certainly a beer to enjoy, a great SA Drink Of The Week, and you can hear our live tasting about three minutes in:
