The winery is Haselgrove Wines, founded by James Haselgrove, one of South Australia’s industry stalwarts.
This particular drop took us by surprise, as did the label name, Twist, which we’ve accentuated in the photo.
Steve’s opening remark was that his first sip was like emptying a tub of mixed herbs into his mouth.
But then, the herbaceous opening gave way to the savoury/sweet tones of glace cherries.
Brett was most struck by the tannins; this wine doesn’t muck around, it digs straight into your tongue and begins drying it out from the first mouthful.
Adrian piped in with thoughts of tobacco and the rest of us agreed with Brett noting they are becoming obvious flavours once they’d been suggested.
