Chain Of Ponds The Ledge 2012 Shiraz

080-Ledge-Chain-Of-PondsIn episode 80, the South Australian Drink Of The Week was The Ledge, a 2012 Shiraz from Chain Of Ponds wines in the Adelaide Hills.

Our guest wine taster, former Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Stephen Yarwood, instantly picked it as an Adelaide Hills Shiraz before we’d revealed what the wine was.

He said there is something gentler about Shiraz from that region and Nigel suggested the slightly cooler growing conditions would be partly responsible.

Overall, the tasting panel agreed this was a fine, nicely balanced wine with fruit, acidity and tannin all gently cohabiting on the palate.

Steve noted the presence of Irish Moss, a flavour reminiscent of the Irish Moss lozenges that he used to pilfer from his grandma’s purse to soothe his addiction to them (and his throat) as a youngster. None of the panel had a clue what he was talking about!

You can hear our discussion, tasting and competition details around the 19 minute mark of the show.

Win a bottle of this wine

The Arkaba Hotel has partnered with us so that it can let our fellow wine lovers know you can safely order wine by the glass through their Enomatic System. So, instead of getting a tired glass of wine from a bottle that was opened days ago, which is a dreadful experience for serious wine drinkers, at the Arkaba they can guarantee freshness just like the winemaker intended.

To be in the draw to win this week’s wine, you only have TWO things to do:

1. Make sure you’re on our In Crowd mailing list. This little email gets sent every Friday morning with details about the week’s show. You can sign up here and once you’ve signed up you’ll be qualified to play any of our competitions for life.

2. Mention the term Ledge on our Facebook Page, or in a tweet to @TheAdelaideShow, or just email us using that term to podcast@theadelaideshow.com.au. Pick whichever one works best for you but do it BEFORE 11.59pm, Sunday, March 8, 2015, South Australian time of course, and on Monday we will email the winner with details of how they can collect their wine from The Arkaba.
