5NINES Gin. Tasting notes coming Sunday.

David Pearse and Steve Griguol are the men behind 5NINES. Five nines aka 99.999% is a symbol of the perfection they are trying to achieve. But isn’t seeking perfection a curse?

Do get inspiration for botanicals in your gin by walking through national parks and gardens after a summer rain, to breathe in the scents?

How fussy must we be with our mixers?

We must come up to do a show about whisky later in 2019 – are people taking up your offer? Psychologically, how can people prepare themselves to WAIT?

00:09:32 Mindful Moment with Adelaide Night and Day Family Therapy
In this week’s Mindful Moment, principal of Adelaide Night and Day Family Therapy, Brett Williams, discusses the concepts of following and leading as they pertain to relationships.
00:15:08 Rebecca Mezzino and Tara Tuttle

Some people say a clear, clean desk can boost productivity while others argue it leads to increased stress. Humans certainly all have different tolerances of things being out of place but one thing is for certain; by pausing, reflecting, and planning, we can take control of our personal environments so that our surroundings are in harmony with our needs, not creating dissonance. Two women on a quest to guide all of us to be more mindful about our living and working spaces are Rebecca Mezzino and Tara Tuttle from the Be Uncluttered Podcast.

Might I deduce, from the title of your podcast, that you two are on the “clean desk” end of the spectrum?

Is there a psychological price to pay for surrounding ourselves with “things”?

And when do we know whether our things are supporting us or weighing us down?

What prompted you both to embark upon this journey?

I just had an experience at my home. I have never really been happy with our lounge and our large, oddly-shaped living area until the whole family pitched in a few weeks ago and we recreated the lounge room into a formal dining room with a nice lounge area, and made the living room the entertaining, record playing, TV watching area. It is easier to keep clean and I LOVE being in these spaces. How common is my story?

I’ve noticed a lot of talk about minimalism creeping into my Facebook feed and, Rebecca, I think you’re responsible for that. What is minimalism?

I often think, wow, there is so much clutter on our property, when I die, some poor schmucks are going to have a lot of work to do. Should we be pretending we’ve just died, to bring clarity to what we really need to keep because otherwise it feels prudent to hold onto this spare set of folders or cables, “just in case” they come in handy. And, of course, sometimes they do, but a very small percentage.

What areas of our homes are the biggest problem areas for clutter?

Why does everybody have THAT kitchen drawer? And isn’t there an efficiency with that?

Is there a principle for evaluating a space?

A blockage is not wanting to throw something away, but that then means listing things on gumtree and waiting and risking losing momentum. Is that just an excuse?

What’s been the hardest thing to throw away?

What’s been the easiest?

Does everybody in a household need to be on board? Do you need to just lead by example or do you need to threaten punishment and/or divorce?

How do you communicate your wishes to unclutter to well meaning relatives who just love buying you trinkets?

How deeply into your life can we pursue minimalism?

01:05:51 Musical Pilgrimage
In the musical pilgrimage, we have a new track from Susan Lily called Tough As Geranium.
Susan is off to Tamworth over the Australia Day long weekend because apart from performing, she has two songs up for awards. One of them is the one we’re playing shortly but first, talking about geraniums, do gardens and garden sheds need decluttering too?

Here’s this week’s preview video
