One Day Dry by The Saucemen – 013

If I was to tell you The Saucermen are a band with an upright bass and a Gretch guitar who sing about girls, heartache, drinking too much and Johnny Cash, you’d already know what they sound like. Think Stray Cats and you wouldn’t be too far off the mark. Yes, my friends, it’s Rockabilly from lil’ ol’ Adelaide and yet another example of the extraodinary musical depth this town has.

And it rocks.

The album, Dead Mans Hand, immediately transports you to the press near the stage of somewhere like the Thebarton Theatre. Jumping around, too damn hot, and just a little bit drunk. And loving it. This is full time energy music, with songs like “The Ghost of Johnny Cash”, “Get Off” (You said “A week and no more, and it’s been over four; get off, get off of my couch”) and this one. “One Day Dry” sounds like it’s about a guy who took a bet he couldn’t stay off the grog. And, of course, everything went sideways during that day.

The Saucermen use humour, musicianship and a great sound to tell the world that Rockabilly lives. And it is good.
